Naming is cheap. Measuring is not. Before you call a bar a doji, compare the real body to the full range of that bar and to the average body of the prior five. If the body is simply smaller than usual but still directional, it is often a spinning top or a weak continuation mark — not a reversal seed.
In Single-Candle Literacy we use a two-number card: body-to-range ratio and close position inside the range. Those two numbers force a pause. The pause is the point. Pattern libraries become useful only after the pause becomes automatic.
Try it on tonight’s USD/JPY hourly: pick three bars that feel ‘indecisive,’ write the ratios, then decide whether the name still fits. Most traders quietly retire half of their doji labels after one week of this habit.
